Dear Hoxsie Families,

It is my pleasure to extend a heartfelt welcome to you as we begin the 2019-20 school year here at Hoxsie Elementary School.   To those students and parents who are new to Hoxsie, we extend an especially warm welcome and best wishes for an exciting and productive year in your new school.  We hope that you will quickly feel at home and become involved in the activities of our school through the PTO and your child’s classroom program.

There is an exciting new Math curriculum called Ready Math.  Ready Math integrates a balance of conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and Mastery of the Math Standards.

We also have a new Science program called GEMS-Net.  This was rolled out for grades 3 and 4 last year but now grades 1 through 5 will use this Science curriculum.  GEMS-Net is a very engaging curriculum for our students which integrates with English Language Arts very nicely.

We will be having three lunch periods for the students again this year.  This greatly decreased the long lines that students had to wait in and give them more time to eat their lunches.  Speaking of lunches, please remember to send your child into school with healthy lunches and snacks as the Warwick School Department has adopted a Healthy Schools Initiative.  Also, please do not send your child into school with a nut or peanut snack.  Students can bring in peanut or nut products for lunch as we have a peanut-free table!

The start time of school here at Hoxsie is 8:10am and the first bell rings at 8:05am.  Please do not drop your children off at school before 7:45am as there is no supervision.

You are probably noticing that there are significantly less papers in your child’s folder at the start of this school year compared to in the past.  All information now needs to be updated in the Aspen Family Portal (Gateway). You will find this on the Warwick Public Schools website. All forms including medical,  lunch applications, permission for internet usage etc. need to be filled in online now, so it is very important that your information is correct. Please do this as soon as possible. If you have any problems, or do not have access to a computer, please call the main office at 734-3555.

It is my goal to continue the greatness of Hoxsie Elementary School.  The staff and I are committed to delivering a high quality education to your children.  I always have my door open and please don’t hesitate to contact me here at Hoxsie School!
