January 2023

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're doing something.” —Neil Gaiman

What’s happening in our schools?

There was a lot of hard work, plenty of fun, and certainly extra spirit in the halls of our schools during the days leading up to Winter Break! Are you following our Instagram and/or Facebook pages where we share all sorts of great things happening in our schools?

We’re a third of the way thru! First Trimester Report Cards became available on December 22nd, have you viewed your child’s report yet? Warwick Schools put together a comprehensive resource to answer any questions you may have regarding accessing, understanding, and utilizing your child’s report. You may view that here: www.warwickschools.org/article/940986 Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.

Title I Preschool

It’s that time of year! Calling all children who live in the Title I areas and who will turn 4 years old by September 1st, 2023. The Title I preschool located at Oakland Beach Elementary will start enrollment soon! My own two children attended the free half-day, 5 days-a-week class with Mrs. Dotter and Mrs. Morris and I cannot say enough great things about it! Do you know someone with a preschool-aged child? Let them know about our program! Keep an eye out for emails and updates on the Warwick Public School’s website for registration information.

SAVE THE DATES! Healthy Habits is hosting a Family Workshop just for Title I families as well. Join Mrs. Kadek and the Healthy Habits team for a series of classes geared towards families on Fridays from 12:30-2 PM. What better way to kick off the weekend than with some free groceries and new recipes? Preschool-aged children are welcome to join you. This 6-week class will take place Friday afternoons at Hoxsie Elementary on March 3, March 10, March 17, March 24, March 31, and April 7. This delicious opportunity is open to all Title I families! Registration is required and details will be available in next month’s Newsletter.

Upcoming Staff Development and Training

Your Title I team will be virtually attending The National ESEA Conference coming up in February.  This national conference is intentionally aimed at coordination among federal education programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and other federal programs to unite and address a shared goal - how to best meet the needs of disadvantaged students. We will have the ability to learn from and network with nationally recognized education leaders and experts. Throughout the four-day agenda, we will choose from over 130 sessions from today’s leading education experts who will deliver timely, impactful information enhanced by personal experience. We’re all looking forward to another enriching learning opportunity!

January Coffee Hours

We have another round of coffee hours at each school coming up at the end of this month, all of these events are included on the school events calendar on their website. During our January meetings, we will take a look at our Family Engagement Policy as it’s written within the Every Student Succeeds Act, and we will discuss how our budget is utilized. You may or may not be aware that through Title I, your child’s elementary school is provided some extra funding to support student achievement. Attending the coffee hour at your child’s school this month will give you an opportunity to provide valuable insight as to how those funds should be utilized at your child’s school ahead of the budget process for the next school year. Don’t miss this opportunity! We will have an evening opportunity to discuss the budget and Title I initiatives Wednesday, March 1st as well, further details to come.
